After being voted Favorite Country Female at this years AMA’s, Taylor Swift returns the favor by sending a shout out to all of her fans. ”I’m thankful that, even when it’s raining, I’ve got people to count on,” she says. ”All the signings and meet and greets and concerts and faces were running through my head as I ran up the stairs to go accept an award you [fans] won for me,” she continues. “I’ve always wanted an American Music Award, and I feel like the luckiest girl in the world to have you out there doing these things for me.” The country star is also happy to be out of the spotlight and spending time with the family for the holidays. ”I’m also thankful for my mom’s incredible, quirky, obnoxiously loud side of the family,” she writes. “They’re all women, and they all gather together at Thanksgiving and join forces to create the loudest possible holiday ever.” To think, that even after a highly publicized break up with Joe Jonas, she still remains grounded and thankful for the good things.

But that’s okay, because it means my two best friends are on stage at the same time!” Of course, 20 year old Gaston never forgot his real leading lady, ”I saw [Miley] briefly,” Gaston told PEOPLE before his big number. “She really looks pretty.”

Voting for the first time, Taylor Swift tells PEOPLE exclusively that casting her vote for president made her feel “so completely american.” The 18-year old country star waited in line Sumner County, Tennessee for an hour and a half on the last day of the state’s early voting period. ”I wasn’t going to be able to vote on Nov. 4 because I’m going to be in L.A. filming Ellen,” she explains. “But there wasn’t a chance I was going to let this slip away.” Although she tried to go unnoticed during her wait, the tall, blonde was easily spotted and ended up giving out autographs. ”The line wrapped around the building,” she laughs, “but I can honestly tell you that it was worth the wait. I felt like I really accomplished something special. It’s like exercising – you think about it and you’re like, ‘Wow, there’s going to be a long line, there’s going to be a lot of effort involved,’ but afterwards you feel so good.”
